Faithful With What Is His
What if the things we call “ours” were never really ours to begin with?
Jesus’ Parable of the Talents confronts us with a fundamental truth about stewardship: God is the owner, and we are His stewards. Everything placed in our hands has been entrusted to us for a purpose, and one day we will give an account for what we did with it.
In this sermon, Pastor Mark calls us to consider what it means to faithfully manage what belongs to God and why genuine discipleship requires more than simply preserving what we have been given. Faithful stewards put God’s resources to work for God’s purposes.
The Heart of a Steward
Stewardship begins long before we decide what to do with our money. It begins with our relationship with God.
In The Heart of a Steward, we explore the biblical foundation for stewardship and discover how our covenant relationship with God reshapes the way we view everything He has entrusted to us. When we understand who God is, what belongs to Him, and who we are in relationship to Him, stewardship becomes more than an obligation, it becomes a faithful response to the God who has been faithful to us.
When Faithfulness Feels Small
After the people responded to God and began rebuilding the temple, another challenge quickly emerged: discouragement. Some remembered the former temple and could not help comparing the small beginnings in front of them with the glory of the past.
In When Faithfulness Feels Small, Haggai speaks to those moments when obedience seems unimpressive, progress feels slow, and our best efforts appear insignificant. God reminds His people that the value of their work was not determined by how impressive it looked, but by His presence with them and His purposes for what they were doing.
This message encourages us to keep going when faithfulness feels small, trusting that God sees obedience differently than we do. What seems insignificant in our eyes can become part of something far greater in His hands.
Consider Your Ways
The people of Judah had returned home with every intention of rebuilding the temple, but somewhere along the way, their priorities changed. God’s house remained unfinished while they poured their time, energy, and resources into building comfortable lives for themselves.
Haggai confronts the subtle danger of spiritual drift. Through repeated calls to “consider your ways,” God challenges His people to examine why they were working harder yet finding less satisfaction.
This message reminds us that misplaced priorities will eventually reveal themselves in our hearts and lives. God lovingly calls us to stop, take an honest look at what has become most important to us, and put first things first.
The Battle Won on Our Knees
Paul's description of spiritual warfare does not end with the sword, it leads directly into prayer. Prayer is not an optional addition to the armor of God; it is the atmosphere in which the entire battle is fought. This message challenges believers to develop lives characterized by continual, Spirit-dependent, watchful, and persevering prayer for themselves and for others.
The Sword that Wins the War
Every piece of armor prepares the believer to stand, but God also places a weapon in our hands: “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” This message examines the power and sufficiency of Scripture in spiritual warfare. Following Christ's example when He was tempted, believers learn to know, trust, and wield God's Word against the lies and temptations of the enemy.
Protecting the Mind
Some of Satan's fiercest battles are fought in the mind. Doubt, fear, guilt, and uncertainty can weaken believers when they lose sight of what God has accomplished for them in Christ. The helmet of salvation reminds us to protect our thinking with the certainty of God's saving work and to live with confidence in the past, present, and future dimensions of our salvation.
Faith Under Fire
The enemy's fiery darts can come in the form of fear, doubt, discouragement, temptation, and accusation. God's answer is the shield of faith. This message explores what biblical faith looks like when life becomes difficult and teaches us to trust the character, promises, and faithfulness of God even when we cannot understand what He is doing.
Marching Orders
Roman soldiers needed secure footing before they could stand against an enemy, and believers need the same spiritual stability. The gospel of peace gives us firm footing in the battle while also preparing us to carry the good news of Christ wherever God sends us. This message challenges Christians to live confidently in the peace Christ provides and intentionally carry His gospel into a world that desperately needs it.
Guarding the Heart on the Battlefield
The breastplate protected a soldier's vital organs, and Paul uses that image to describe the righteousness that protects the believer in spiritual battle. This message examines both the righteousness we receive through Christ and the righteous living that should characterize those who belong to Him. When Satan attacks with accusation, temptation, and condemnation, our confidence rests not in our goodness but in Christ and the transforming work He is accomplishing in us.
Buckled for Battle
The first piece of armor Paul identifies is the belt of truth. In a world filled with deception, distorted thinking, and competing definitions of truth, believers must anchor their lives firmly in the truth of God's Word. This message challenges us not only to know the truth but also to live with honesty, integrity, and lives ordered by what God has said.
Holding the Line
When spiritual pressure increases, God's command is remarkably simple: stand. This message explores what it means to remain faithful when the enemy attacks, circumstances become difficult, and compromise seems easier. Spiritual victory is often demonstrated not through dramatic advances but through believers who refuse to surrender the ground God has given them.
The Battle Before Us
Every soldier must recognize when the call to battle has sounded. This message exposes the seriousness of the spiritual warfare taking place around us and challenges believers to recognize the enemy's strategies without becoming intimidated by his attacks. God calls His people to wake up, suit up, and stand ready for the conflict before them.
Standing Firm in Battle
The Christian life involves a spiritual conflict that cannot be fought in human strength. In this opening message, we discover the reality of our enemy, the source of our strength, and God's command to stand firm. Before examining each piece of spiritual armor, we must understand that victory begins by depending upon the power of the Lord rather than ourselves.
Serving Christ in Everyday Life
Most of life is lived in ordinary places, but the Gospel gives extraordinary purpose to ordinary work. Drawing from Ephesians 6:5–9 and Colossians 3, this message explores how following Christ transforms the way we work, lead, serve, and treat others. When we recognize Christ as our true Master, even the most routine responsibilities become opportunities to glorify God and display the transforming power of the Gospel.
Wholehearted Obedience
Why we work matters even more than what work we do. In Ephesians 6:5–8, Paul shows how the Gospel transforms our attitudes, motivations, and obedience in everyday life. Whether our work is noticed or overlooked, exciting or ordinary, believers are called to serve wholeheartedly with integrity because ultimately we are not merely working for people but rather serving Christ.
A Father’s Calling
God has given fathers an enormous responsibility to not merely control behavior, but to nurture, discipline, and disciple their children in a way that reflects His own heart. From Ephesians 6:4, this message examines the dangers of misused authority and the calling to parent with consistency, tenderness, truth, and grace. The ultimate goal of fatherhood is to point children toward a Heavenly Father who is worthy of their trust.
Children and the Gospel
What should the Gospel look like inside the Christian home? In Ephesians 6:1–3, Paul calls children to obedience while reminding families that genuine transformation goes much deeper than outward behavior. This message explores how truth, obedience, forgiveness, and grace work together to produce gospel-shaped homes where children are pointed beyond good behavior to their need for Christ.
Marriage: God’s Design
In a culture where marriage is continually being redefined, Ephesians 5:31–33 calls us back to God’s original design. This message explores the theology, unity, loyalty, intimacy, priority, and sanctity of biblical marriage. More than simply a relationship between husband and wife, marriage is designed by God to make Christ visible and display the Gospel to a watching world.
Loving Like Christ
What does it really mean for a husband to love his wife as Christ loved the church? From Ephesians 5:25–33, this message challenges husbands to move beyond self-centered ideas of love and embrace a love that is sacrificial, intentional, and spiritually focused. Ultimately, biblical marriage is about more than becoming a better spouse. It is about displaying the love of Christ and the beauty of the Gospel.
